Tito Mboweni is the current South African Minister of Finance. He was the first black Governor of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) from 1999 to 2009. He joined the SARB in July 1998 as Advisor to the Governor.
He was named central bank governor of the year by European financial magazine Euro Money in 2001. The publication credited him for defending the value of the rand and bringing inflation down from 9% to 6.1%.
